Pakistan And Iran Agree To Work Together For Defense Cooperation And Regional Peace

Maj. Gen. Mohammad Baqeri, Chief Of Iran’s Armed Forces, Is Currently On A Visit To Pakistan, Where He Has Met With Other Civilian And Military Leaders, Including Prime Minister Imran Khan And Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa.

During a meeting with Major General Muhammad Baqeri on Wednesday, General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that both Pakistan and Iran are brotherly countries and their close cooperation is essential for regional peace and stability.

The meeting discussed the situation in Afghanistan, regional security and other issues, especially the issue of fencing the Pak-Iran border. The two leaders agreed on defense cooperation, working together for regional peace and a joint response to terrorism.

During the meeting at the delegation level, the Iranian delegation was given a comprehensive briefing on regional security and professional readiness and was briefed on the training issues of the Pakistan Army.

The Iranian Chief of General Staff expressed his desire to further strengthen military-level relations on counter-terrorism and training issues.

During a meeting with Iran’s Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Baqeri, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Pakistan and Iran have a direct interest in the stability of Afghanistan.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan wanted to see a peaceful and stable Afghanistan based on policies to promote sustainable economy and connectivity.

He said that the international community should be actively mobilized in a positive manner to provide the required assistance to Afghanistan and prevent the economic crisis.

Imran Khan also called for closer ties between Pakistan and Iran through a platform of Afghanistan’s six neighbors set up last month.

He lauded Iran’s unwavering support for the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, especially the support of the Iranian Supreme Leader, and said that Kashmiris expect Iran’s full support for their legitimate right to self-determination.
